How to Choose the Right Elastic Therapeutic Taping Education

“We believe, that is, you and I, that education is not an expense. We believe it is an investment.” – Lyndon B. Johnson, October 16, 1968

An investment in education in the medical field is a must.  As you make your decision on which taping education to embrace, I encourage you to remember the reason you became a medical practitioner in the first place, to aid patients in the best way you know how.  Your education is the basis of your knowledge.

As I Certified Kinesio Tape® Instructor, I stand firmly behind the founder and leader in the industry, Dr. Kenzo Kase and the Kinesio Taping® Method.  Read on to learn why.

Dr. Kenzo Kase

The Kinesio® Tex Taping Method has a superior curriculum backed by the creator and originator of all elastic therapeutic taping methods Dr. Kenzo Kase.  In the 1970’s, Dr. Kase saw the need for a new and innovative method to treat his patients.  The tape available at that time was ridged, restricted ROM and did not provide the therapeutic outcome he wanted for his patients.  In addition, the tape was harsh and caused skin rashes and irritation.  He began working with product engineers to create a tape that would imitate human skin, be gentle, allow ROM and be a viable therapy for populations ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Following the creation of the tape itself, Dr. Kase worked to prove the science behind the new medical taping method he had created.  The Kinesio® Taping Method is the only elastic therapeutic taping method with the backing of over 35 years of research proving the science behind the taping.  Students of the Kinesio Taping® Method have access to this vast database of research.

The philosophy of Dr. Kase is that education is the foundation of taping therapies. The Kinesio® education is based on patient care, focused on medical conditions and rooted in patient assessment and evaluation.  You must be a medical practitioner in order to acquire the taping skills necessary to successfully achieve clinical therapeutic outcomes for your patients.

An integral component to the the Kinesio Taping® Method is assessment of the patient.  Kinesio Tape® students have the advantage of education that instructs the importance of assessment, how to assess, and constant re-assessment technique.  The medical community more and more each day is changing protocol to approach a patient as a whole person delving into all factors that contribute their presenting condition.  Dr. Kase has always approached patients as a whole looking at all contributing factors to determine the best taping application.  The Kinesio Taping® Method education is not a simplistic “one size fits all” slap on solution.

The Kinesio Taping® Method education is far superior in its curriculum development which is “based on 25 years of symposiums, forums and professional sharing among tens of thousands of professionals worldwide”. The Kinesio® education is a life long journey which provides a community for sharing professional information.

The Kinesio Taping® Method is for more than athletics.  It is inclusive of the widest range of populations with 85% of applications employed for medical conditions not related to athletics.   The tape design was instrumental in allowing for pediatrics to geriatrics to utilize this therapy with no contraindications for the skin itself.

Stand out by obtaining your professional certification as a Certified Kinesio® Tape Practitioner and become a CKTP®.  You will have the support of Kinesio® International and Kinesio® University with your membership in this elite community.

The Kinesio Taping® Method is an international community of instructors, practitioners and distributors.  With connections in 36 countries, a Kinesio Taping® Method student has global connections providing the most extensive support needed while perfecting their taping skills and incorporating the Kinesio Taping® Method into their practice.

Kinesio Tex Classic Tape  Kinesio Tex FP Bulk Roll    Kinesio Tex Performance+

Kinesio® Tape is manufactured with populations of pediatrics to geriatrics in mind.  For this reason, “all Kinesio® Tex products are uniquely designed to be gentle to the skin, comfortable for days at a time and allow normal mobility through any stage of the rehabilitation process”.

There are three types of Kinesio® Tex Tape, Kinesio® Tex Classic tape, Kinesio® Tex Gold FP and brand new on the market Kinesio® Tex Performance+ tape.

Kinesio® Tex Classic tape set the standard worldwide with its famous wave design.  Although it  was first recognized in athletics, 85% of all Kinesio® Taping applications are for medical conditions not related to athletics.   The original tape was designed to lift the skin allowing for blood and lymph flow, providing muscle, ligament, tendon and joint stability while not decreasing ROM.  The original Kinesio® Tex Classic is slightly thicker providing additional stability.

Next, Dr. Kase created Kinesio® Tex Gold FP.  FP stands for finger print and this technology provides a nano-touch finger print pattern generated from how the adhesive is applied to the tape.  This revolutionary new manufacturing technique is effective for taping treatments in the medical setting particularly when used for circulatory, lymphatic, or neurological treatments.  Because the purpose of Kinesio® Tex Gold FP tape is for the medical setting, this tape is only available for purchase by medical professionals.

Brand new on the market is Kinesio® Tex Performance+ tape.  This evolutionary tape provides support and stability while allowing pressure to release from the muscle.  The target tissue area ranges from the muscle surface to deep fascia.

Other properties of the Kinesio® Tex Tape brand are:

  • Water Resistant – Allowing for maximum wear time
  • 40 – 60% Stretch – Consistent with human skin
  • Breathability – The cotton fiber and wave pattern adhesive makes the tape porous allowing the skin to breath
  • Gentle to the Skin
  • Latex Free
  • Hypoallergenic

As a medical professional, you are aware that income must be generated to keep your practice healthy and growing.  Kinesio® constantly gathers third party billing information from their community of practitioners and instructors providing you with the most up-to-date billing codes suggested when providing this therapy.  Their compilation is currently comprised of 27 CPT codes.

Also consider that Kinesio® Taping therapy can be billed on a cash basis allowing you the flexibility to charge the patient directly.  This option provides the ability for practitioners who don’t bill for third party reimbursements to receive a return on their education investment.

The greatest measure of value is the health and wellness of your patient.  Engaging the leading education in the industry, the Kinesio Taping® Method, will provide the highest value of clinical results utilizing the most extensive education on the market.

Kinesio Taping® Method students can be rest assured that every aspect of Kinesio® from its originator, to the creation of the tape, its extensive research database, the actual curriculum and the manufacture of the tape itself is focused on patient care.
