KT1 FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS, SCREENING/MUSCLE TEST, & MUSCLE APPLICATIONS (TO BE TAKEN IN CONJUNCTION WITH KT2)

The KT1 course is designed to introduce practitioners to the Kinesio Taping® Method. Over the course of this 8 hour class, the instructor will discuss the fundamental concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method and the unique properties and use of Kinesio® Tex Tape. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice screening and muscle testing created for the enhancement of your KT skills and muscle applications for both the upper and lower body. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the Kinesio Taping Method to relax overuse syndromes, stimulate weak muscles, and decrease pain and swelling. In addition to instruction provided by a Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor (CKTI), the attendee will receive 2 full-color Kinesio Taping Workbooks (KT1 Workbook 1) to augment their training. Each attendee also receives 60 day membership to the Kinesio Taping® Association which includes access to a reference data base.

KT2 ADVANCED CONCEPTS & CORRECTIVE TECHNIQUE (PRE-REQUISITE, COMPLETION OF KTA APPROVED KT1 COURSE)

The KT2 course builds on material learned in KT1. During this 8 hour class, the instructor will introduce the six Corrective Techniques (Mechanical, Functional, Space, Fascia, Ligament/Tendon, and Lymphatic) and discuss their application in a variety of clinical conditions. During lab sessions, attendees will have ample time to practice applying these techniques to a variety of upper and lower body conditions. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss and apply the KT Method to orthopedic & neurological conditions. Attendees will receive Workbook 2 (KT Correctional Techniques and Clinical Applications) to augment their training. KT1 & KT2 Course Objectives: By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Correctly describe the fundamental concepts of Kinesio Taping Method
  • Accurately describe the unique qualities of Kinesio Tex Tape
  • Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly to relax and stimulate muscles
  • Correctly apply the 5 corrective techniques of the Kinesio Taping Method in guided laboratory sessions
  • Apply the Kinesio Taping Method correctly for pain, swelling, joint mobility, and stability
  • Correctly apply Kinesio Taping techniques for treatment of select clinical conditions using the concepts and principals of the Kinesio Taping Method

Kinesio Taping Method Education

KT3: Clinical Concepts and Advanced Whole Body Applications of the Kinesio Taping Method(Prerequisite, completion of KTA approved KT1 and KT2 courses)

The KT3 course combines the Kinesio Taping Method foundational concepts of KT1&KT2 with advanced clinical concepts. The course provides lab time for attendees to practice their skills on the new concepts through a variety of clinical applications. The KT3 course is designed to allow the Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor (CKTI) to cater specific clinical applications to address specific professions. Upon completion of this course and prerequisite KT1&KT2 seminar, attendees will be eligible to request and take the exam to become a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP). Note: Students can request to take the exam but will not be eligible to receive a CKTP certificate until they graduate. Course Objectives:

  • Review the basic concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method
  • Explain and apply advanced concepts of the Kinesio Taping Method
  • Review epidermis, dermis, and fascial anatomy as it is related to Kinesio Taping
  • Utilize and demonstrate application skills in guided laboratory sessions
  • Apply the Kinesio Taping Method to stimulate epidermis, dermis, and fascial response
  • Apply advanced clinical taping techniques for treatment of the spine, neurological conditions, and upper/lower extremity dysfunction

KT4 SPECIALTY SPORTS/ORTHOPEDIC CONCEPTS OF THE KINESIO TAPING METHOD (PRE-REQUISITE, COMPLETION OF KTA APPROVED KT1, KT2, AND KT3 COURSES)

The KT4 Sports/Orthopedic course is focused on sports conditions. During the KT4 Sports/Orthopedic course, attendees will practice their skills on a variety of applications correlated with specific clinical sports conditions. This course is designed to give attendees guidelines on how to combine the concepts learned in the KT1, KT2, and KT3 courses with the concepts of sport medicine. This course is also designed to give attendees the chance to learn and practice specific applications related to specific sports dysfunctions. During this course, attendees will face problem-solving and specific taping techniques correlated with the healing process of joint and soft tissues, posture correction to provide stimulations to restore good posture for athletes, and lower and upper limb injuries. Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to combine the Kinesio Taping Method with specific sport conditions following guidelines learned during this course and developing the skills necessary to adapt Kinesio Taping Techniques to specific needs of athletes. This will enable the attendees to create an individualized treatment correlated to the phase of the healing process as well as the specific sport injury, sport performed, and position that the athlete occupies on the field. Course Objectives:

  • Enhances achieving the common objectives of Sports Medicine Practitioners
  • Learn Kinesio Taping Methods for:
    • Common athletic injuries
    • Recognizing “local” vs. “global” issues
    • Treating overuse issues
    • Treating the cause of the symptoms
    • Improving clinical condition of the athletes correlated to athletic performance
  • Integration of the Kinesio Taping Method into the treatment protocol of an injury from the initial onset of the injury, healing stages, rehabilitation, and return to activity
    • Teaching and learning the proper posture, core strength, and movement patterns can be greatly enhanced with proper use of the Kinesio Taping Method
  • Review and study the current trends of the Kinesio Taping Method in relationship to current trends in Sports Medicine

Course Requirements for all Kinesio Education Seminars (also please note the prerequisite for each individual course): In order to attend a Kinesio Taping® seminar, each attendee must meet all of the following criteria: 1. Orthopedic and Pain Management Education

Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage is rapidly gaining popularity and will continue to do so as people recognize its therapeutic benefits. This course series will be dedicated to educating the massage therapist about the importance of pain management and the restoration of pain free movement throughout the body.  The program addresses the underlying causes and pathology of orthopedic conditions.  Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage is an integration of many massage modalities.  Massage modalities may include myofascial release, NMT, scar tissue realignment and PNF stretching.  The program outlines physical findings, functional assessment skills and treatment protocols for orthopedic conditions.  Treatment protocols will include both upper and lower body conditions. This education designed to provide a solid knowledge base of orthopedic conditions.  It is intended for massage therapists who want to build assessment skills and a therapeutic skill set in order to implement treatment protocols for orthopedic conditions.  Courses provide education, demonstration and hands-on experience in a small group setting.  Individualized learning and focused instruction affords the clinician the optimal learning environment.   Who Should Attend? Intro to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage – 8 Hours Prerequisite:  N/A

  • This course focuses on clinician development and integrating course knowledge and therapeutic process.
  •  Goal is to continue to help the clinician develop their own skills as it applies to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.
  • Instruction is focused on core stabilization and clinician awareness of its importance as it relates to the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Instruction will be focused on the following:
    • The importance of Pain Management
    • Core stabilization as it pertains to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage
    • The Twelve-Step Approach – Traditional Method
    • Assessment for Orthopedic Conditions
    • Hands on demonstration of Prone, Supine and Side line positions
    • Time permitting we will do hands-on demonstration of one upper and one lower body condition.

Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage –  Lower Body – 24 Hours Prerequisite:  Introduction to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage or equivalent as approved by the instructor.

  • This course focuses on lower body conditions as pertaining to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage
  • The goal of this course is to provide the clinician with an in depth knowledge and understanding of the most common lower body conditions that pertain to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.
  • Instruction will be focused on the following lower body conditions:
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Plantar fasciitis/heel pain
  • Inversion ankle sprain/high ankle sprain
  • Shin splints – anterolateral shin splints, anterior compartment syndrome, posterior medial shin splints, stress fracture.
  • Low back pain – sciatica
  • Gastrocnemius strain–tennis leg, most commonly found at the musculotendinous junction of the medial head of the gastrocnemius
  • Hamstring Strain
  • IT Band Friction Syndrome

Day One – Instruction Day Two – Instruction and Hands-On Day Three – Morning:  Hands-On Afternoon – Preparation for Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage 3 Day Upper Body course. Integration of the upper body focusing particularly on the transition from a side line to a supine position.   It’s critical to know how to integrate the upper and lower body mechanics.  Q & A

Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage – Upper Body – 24 Hours Prerequisite:  Introduction to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage and Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage – Lower Body 3 Day course or equivalent as approved by the instructor.

  • This course focuses on upper body conditions as pertaining to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage
  • The goal of this course is to provide the clinician with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the most common upper body conditions that pertain to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.
  • Instruction will be focused on the following conditions:
    • Low back pain/sciatica
    • Medial and lateral epicondyles
    • Rotator cuff tear pain – infraspinatus vs. teres minor strain
    • Supraspinatus tendinitis
    • Subscapularis tendinitis vs. bicipital tendinitis
    • Cervical spine conditions/headaches
    • Frozen shoulder and thoracic outlet syndrome
    • Carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel
    • Bicipital tendonitis.

Assessment Skills – 8 Hours Prerequisite:  Introduction to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage, Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage – Lower Body 3 Day Course and Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage – Upper Body 3 Day Course or equivalent as approved by the instructor.

  • Focus on integrating upper and lower body conditions and treatment.  This is an advanced course designed specifically to address your most difficult cases, acute and chronic in nature.
  • The course is designed to help the clinician build assessment skills, a therapeutic skill set and strategies for orthopedic conditions.  The massage therapist should come prepared with questions and concerns regarding their clients and the conditions they face.  The instructor will focus on helping the clinician to apply knowledge that incorporates:
  • Physiological landmarks where muscles, ligaments and tendons attach. (Including PSIS – Posterior Superior Illiacus Spine, ASIS – Anterior Superior Illiacus Spine, the Greater Tubercle).
  • Assessing muscle imbalance
  • To integrate assessment skills and therapeutic modalities (i.e. orthopedic and pain management, myofascial release, trigger point, kinesio taping) to help obtain optimum therapeutic results
  • A Quick assessment for a starting point at each session
  • This course will provide continued theoretical instruction in the field of Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage for both upper and lower body conditions. Theoretical instruction will include advanced training in assessment and treatment of the following conditions (including but not limited to) low back pain/sciatica, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, shin splints, frozen shoulder syndrome, supraspinatus tendonitis, rotator cuff tear pain and bicipital tendonitis.   The clinician should be able to utilize assessment skills and treatment strategies to promote therapeutic healing and treatment progress.

(BLS) for Healthcare Providers

The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP) Course is a video-based, Instructor-led course that teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support. This course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. BLS for Healthcare Providers teaches skills using the American Heart Association’s proven Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows Instructors to observe students, provide feedback and guide students’ acquisition of skills. With their student manual for the course, students receive the new Pocket Reference Card, designed to provide quick emergency information to the rescuer at any time. Heart Saver CPR AED

With nearly 80 percent of sudden cardiac arrests occurring outside the hospital, it is important that employers offer CPR and AED training for their employees to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. Heartsaver CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult. Optional modules include child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and child and infant choking. Heartsaver CPR AED teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills. Upon successful completion of the course, including a skills test, students receive a Heartsaver CPR AED course completion card, valid for 2 years. Skills are taught by using the American Heart Association’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows participants to practice on a CPR training manikin while skills are demonstrated in the course video.
